Some members of the public who used to come regularly from different parts of the city to visit the Anderson Swimming pool (now known as Rabindra Sarobar), contemplated to have swimming practice as well as Lifesaving practice in an organized way. To materialize their contemplation they held a meeting on a fine morning of the Bengali new year’s day (1 st Baisakh, 1366) under the Chairmanship of Sri Girindra Nath Das, on the bank of Rabindra Sarobar. More than 30 heads were present in the said meeting and it was resolved that an organization to be formed and be named as “LAKE FRIENDS” and the main objective shall be for ‘Educational purposes for both physical and cultural activities’. An enthusiastic member, Sri Sisir Kumar De came forward with an offer of allowing ‘Lake Friends’ one of the rooms of his house at 14, South End Park, Calcutta -29 as its registered office. This offer was immediately accepted with great pleasure. In the said meeting an Executive Committee as named below was formed –

Within a day or two the printing of membership forms, receipt books, letter heads, emblem of the club, etc. was completed with the sincere effort of Sunil Paul and Sri Bakshis Singh. In the said year,this organisation was registered under the West Bengal Society Act, and affiliated with the Bengal Swimming Association.
